    According to a recent report by London-based consultancy firm Omedia, the global smartphone market grew by 28.1 percent in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period last year. The top selling smartphone brands in the world market during this period are:

    1. Samsung

    By the end of the first quarter of 2021, Samsung has managed to secure its position as the world’s number one smartphone brand. It sold 29.2 percent more smartphones in the first quarter than in the same period last year.

    From January to March, Samsung sold 76.1 million smartphones. Samsung has a 22 percent share of the global smartphone market. The timely launch of the new Galaxy S series smartphones and the continued popularity of the low-priced Galaxy A series phones have helped Samsung to become the top brand in the global smartphone market.

    2. Apple

    iPhone maker Apple is in second place in the global smartphone market with a 16 percent share. Apple sold 56.4 million iPhones in the first quarter. This is an increase of 46.5 percent over the same period last year.

    3. Xiaomi

    Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi has a 14 percent share of the global smartphone market. With the crisis looming over another Chinese brand, Huawei, Xiaomi is aggressively expanding its market. Xiaomi has sold 78.3 percent more smartphones than in the first quarter of 2020.

    4. Vivo

    Chinese smartphone brand Vivo is in fourth place with an 11 percent market share. From January to the end of March, vivo has sold 38.2 million smartphones. This is an increase of 95.9 percent over the same period last year.

    5. Oppo

    Another fifth-ranked Chinese brand, Oppo, has a market share of 11 percent. During this period, Oppo has managed to sell 37.8 million smartphones. This is 85 percent more than the same period last year.

    6. Huawei

    The Chinese brand Huawei, once number one in the global smartphone market, has shrunk to sixth place. Huawei sold 14.7 million smartphones in the first quarter. Which is 70 percent less than in the first quarter of 2020.

    American brand Motorola is in seventh place with 12.6 million smartphones sold in the first quarter. Motorola sold 128 percent more smartphones than in the same period last year. Motorola’s fortunes have been analyzed with the announcement of LG’s exit from the smartphone market. Both LG and Motorola have been focusing on markets in North America, South America and the Caribbean.

    8. Realme

    Realme, the top eight smartphone maker in the world, sold 11.4 million smartphones in the January-March period.

    9. Techno

    Chinese brand Techno has sold 8.2 million smartphones in the first quarter. Compared to the same period last year, Techno sold 133 percent more smartphones. This is the highest growth rate among smartphone brands.

    LG, which has decided to withdraw from the smartphone business, has managed to become one of the top ten smartphone brands in the first quarter. During this period, LG has sold 6.8 million smartphones
